When browsing and reading articles on the web I frequently encounter the question of whether I am enjoying reading the article in question or enjoy using the website. There's even a question on the Met Office website asking, "Are you enjoying using the Met Office website?" with a thumbs up and a thumbs down icons to click.
Enjoy?? Do people enjoy reading articles on politics, philosophy or whatever? Do people enjoy finding out what the weather's going to be like? Enjoy just seems to be the wrong word to describe one's experience. I might agree with an article, or disagree with it, or find the website useful (like the weather forecast), but the word "enjoy" here seems inappropriate.
Also, do companies not understand what the words "free" and "give" mean? For example, I'm inundated with ads on Facebook imploring me to read a book. That it's free with kindle unlimited. But in what sense is it "free" since the potential reader in the UK has to fork out £9.49 a month for the kindle unlimited service? Do all these TV streaming services also claim their programmes are free? Free means I don't have to pay for something. I just get it for.. you know.. free! Then there's the Telegraph continually sending me emails saying they'll give me the Telegraph to read for 6 months for just £1.99 or whatever the price they ask for. Give?? When a company asks for cash for a service, then they are not giving you anything, they are selling you a service. This remains the case even though it may be cheap.
