The Meta Ray-Ban Display

I read a New York Times article reviewing the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses. The article is being negative, partially due to the fact that a few days ago there was a live demonstration where, unfortunately, not everything went according to plan. But it's interesting that Meta risked such a demonstration with the attendant dangers of glitches and bugs manifesting themselves. Indeed, this suggests to me that such glitches are relatively uncommon in these glasses, otherwise why risk it?

I confess I have no experience with smart glasses, nor virtual reality, nor augmented reality. Nor do I even use smartphones very much (mainly I use mine for phone calls and as a torch!) However, from my reading, these glasses seem to be a game-changer. Yes, there will be glitches and bugs, which might be expected with new technology.  So this failure of the live demonstration is not as big a deal as people are suggesting.

Anyway, they have a hell of a lot of potential when the technology is refined and becomes cheaper.  They might even supplant smartphones! It may not be these glasses that become a runaway success, but something similar to them is likely to be.

Just more mad / useless / trivial technology. However, given that our present industrial society can't last beyond another 150 years at most due to (especially) resource depletion, but also pollution, global warming, etc., then it seems hardly worth commenting on.
